MINUTES
That the September 20, 2017 AGM Meeting notes were handed out. President Bruce Reid asked all people to read the minutes, if anyone has any changes to add to the notes provided. No changes made. MOTION by Assiniboia. Seconded by Gravelbourg. CARRIED.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
That the financial reporting stating income at $16,508.77 expenses at $5,179.20 and an end balance at $11,329.57. Presented by Tracey Stenson be approved. MOTION by Swift Current. Seconded by Gull Lake. CARRIED.
PRESIDENT REPORT - Bruce Reid
The 2017-18 Southwest Saskatchewan Hockey League season has been concluded. From my perspective the season went fairly well. There were a handful of issues but nothing too serious. There were no incidents that required intervention of the executive. The Commissioners did an excellent job of leading their divisions and for that I thank them. This meeting will end the term of VP’s Ryan Brown and Cory Packet and Secretary Angel Boyer. Thank you for your work to operate the league. For the 2018-19 and 2019-20 season Gull Lake will provide President and Secretary, Vice Presidents will come from Cabri and Gravelbourg.
As I turn the President’s position over to Gull Lake I would like to congratulate this year’s Champions: Atom - Eastend, Pee Wee - Eastend, Bantam - Shaunavon and Midget - Shaunavon.

PeeWee Commissioner - Jayden Balfour - N/A
Atom Commissioner - Ryan Olynick
Was a good season. A few issues altering stats, recommended not having any stats. All teams were great and easy to deal with. Some trouble getting team rosters and contact information on the website. Gull Lake and Eastend in the final with Eastend winning 2 - 1 games. Congrats to Eastend.
Otherwise complaints were small and easy handled.
Bantam Commissioner - Ashley Lind
This year’s bantam league consisted of 9 teams. It as decided to play at 24 game regular season with a home and away game for each team plus a double home with 4 teams and a double away with the other 4. The top 7 made it straight into playoffs with the 8th and 9th place teams playing off for the 8th spot All rounds were best of 3. We left lots of time during the week for playoffs taking into account that the teams would be using the weekends for Provincials. Our managers and coaches did a good job inputting games into the website with only a few reminders. The year went fairly smooth with few cancellations. There were a couple rescheduling conflicts but al was resolved. There were however quite a few suspensions which I followed the SHA handbook and didn’t apply any heavier suspensions. Most of the suspensions were from 5 minutes penalties being handed out by refers. I did have several calls from coaches about these calls in which injuries were not occurring. I think refs may have to use more discretion when handing out these calls. All of my suspensions for 5 minutes calls were handed out in games played in Swift Current. Int the end Shaunavon came up against Maple Creek in the final and won in two games. Thank you very much to all the volunteers in the bantam league this year it was great working with you.
Midget Commissioner - Shauna Lacher
Six teams participated in the Midget Division for 2017-2018 hockey year:
Glentworth, 2x Swift Current, Gull Lake, Shaunavon, Woodriver/Lafleche.
There were 122 players including two over-aged players from Gull Lake which were approved by the Executive at the beginning of the season.
A double home and home series was decided on for a total of 20 league games for the year. League play commenced Oct 27, 2017 and was completed on February 9, 2018.
Playoff format was decided as best of 3 games for round 1 and 2, with top 2 teams getting a bye in the first round. The highest-ranking team got to choose their opponent. In round 2, playoffs were seeded. Playoff champions were determined in round 3 from the best record of 5 games series.
In the 1st round of playoffs, Shaunavon and Glentworth received byes finishing 1st and 2nd respectively. Swift Current Wild chose to face off against Gull Lake Greyhounds in round 1 of playoffs which left Woodriver vs. Swift Current Knights as the 2nd match up. Swift Current Wild and Swift Current Knights advanced to play Glentworth and Shaunavon in Round 2. Shaunavon and Glentworth faced off in the final series with Shaunavon taking home the championship winning 3 games straight.
Overall, it was a good year of hockey with good camaraderie across all the teams.
There were 28 suspensions issued in the year - the majority were assessed for fighting.
The only concern that I fielded this year were with the regard to reffing. All participants who called with concerns regarding the refs were appreciative of their services and acknowledged that refs are hard to find. However, some felt that some refs were unfairly impacting the results of the games. Concerns were raised about the impartiality of refs towards players which was being displayed before or during a game, the overall quality of reffing in some of the rural areas as well as the number of major penalties that were being assessed that did not seem to be warranted given the nature of the infraction that took place. I discussed this issue at the end of the year with league president Bruce Reid and our league is in a bit of a difficult position since reffing is not something that the SSHL has jurisdiction of or any control over. However, we do acknowledge that there seems to be an accountability piece that is lacking and we would like to work with the reffing association to see if there is any way we can address these concerns going forward.
I would like to wish all the graduating players al the best in hockey as they move forward in other hockey endeavours. Thanks for a great year everyone!

Thank you to everyone especially after the last week with the tragic from the Humboldt bus accident. Thoughts and prayers are with all effected.
If something isn’t right within the year always contact myself and I will try to lead whomever into the right direction for answers needed.

Admission: Approval to charge admission at PeeWee games. Smaller centers are struggling to pay refs. Motion passed by a vote to start to charge admission for PeeWee age. Vote = for 23 - against 5
Charges is as follows. Midget/Bantam/Peewee $5.00 per adult $3.00 per student.

REFFING- Stuart Smith was not at attendance.
Concerns with reffing that some guidelines should be given the same as they are given to coaches and players. Noted that parents need to show more respect when attending the arenas. A reminder for this to be addressed at the Fall Meeting.
